Update on the Gentle Giant

Some know and some may not the extent of what has occurred this week to our family.  Josh went in for surgery on Monday where his colon was taken out and then the small intestine was connected to his rectum.  We are hopeful this surgery will work and we have the best doctor who performed this surgery.  Coming out of surgery wasn't easy for Josh.  He stopped breathing 2x and had to be bagged and lots of nurses and doctors came while I was there watching my child turn white to blue and have "that" glazed look.  Yes, I will have nightmares for a while.  His recovery hasn't been as smooth as the doctors/nurses have hoped either.  His oxygen level has been a bouncing ball, so for right now while he is sleeping or while he tolerates it we put the oxygen mask on to help his level go anywhere from 27 (really bad) to 90 which is really good.  His heart rate also has been a little high, but they think it's because of the anxiety of all the tubes and trauma done to Josh's body.  So they aren't to worried.  We've also had to deal with the throwing up.  Today was the first day he's been able to hold something down, that is until Doug just texted saying he through up a little.  Bummer!  I was hoping tomorrow (Sunday) we could start on crackers.  We'll see.  Then we noticed a rash forming on his left side last night.  They thought at first it was shingles, but decided it was Josh's body trying to adjust, it's still there, but no bumps.
He still can't "go" to the restroom or produce enough liquid that way for them to remove the catheder (3x having one put in) We are hoping tomorrow maybe they will let him be "free".  He's getting plenty of extra fluids via the IV and they have added sugar and something else (i'm tired and can't remember) to one of the bags to keep nutrients going into him, so he's not getting dehydrated.
I'm not writing this for the pity party that some might think, but I thought it might help so that no one was out in the dark about Joshua or that it was not taken wrong.  Josh will come out of this, he's not a text book child.  The nurses and doctors are learning this very fast and are very patient with trying to find the best care.  So for now all we ask is to remember him in your prayers.  That's it.

Thanks for the update. Asking for prayers is always a good thing. I have found that many times, others have great faith in my behalf and that faith strengthens mine. Hope you know that our faith is strong and you can hold on.
LOVE you sis!
