About 1:00 a.m. for some reason, I woke up with a startle and said, "I smell smoke."
Doug jump out of bed and the hunt began. Our home was filled with smoke and awful smelling smoke to. We ran to each of the boys rooms to see if they were okay or if their heaters were turned on and burning...we checked the dishwasher to see if plastic had fallen down by the heating coils...we checked the walls...Doug started opening the windows...some of the windows don't have screens on them, but that was okay. We checked the washing machine/dryer...Then the heater...we couldn't find anything.
We couldn't find where the smoke was coming from, but it was pretty powerful in the front entry way upstairs and in the hallway downstairs...so Doug opened up the bathroom window downstairs, and that is where I found the smoke...coming out of the vent. So it had to be the heater. But, we don't have our heater on...I've turned it down for the summer months. Doug took apart the heater...yup, that's where the smell was originating from.
We think, we'll have it checked though, that the motor on the heater died and and was burning. In the vents on the heater, you could tell the lint coming out was all burnt. So Doug turned the fan off and then decided to cut the gas and blow the pilot light out.
SCARY!
He thankfully had fans in the car from work and went out to start getting the smoke out of the house. He assured me that everything was alright, the boys were safe, we said prayers of thanks for keeping us safe and helping us find the problem. Doug then stayed up till 3ish to make sure the home was not going to burn down and to get as much smoke smell out as possible.
There is still a lingering smell in our bathroom and a slight smell is other rooms...but the house didn't burn down, the boys are safe...
We were definitely in our Heavenly Father's hands.
